Freedom from Temptation

Day: 6

Scripture

Matthew 26:41

Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Main Idea

Have you ever struggled with temptation in a specific area of your life? Maybe for you it was gossip, or pride, or jealousy. When we face an ongoing battle with an area of struggle, it feels like we won’t ever overcome it. But did you know that Jesus gave us a way to be free not just from sin, but even from temptation itself? In Matthew 26:41, Jesus says: “Keep watching and praying, so that you do not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” This verse tells us that proximity to His Presence equals protection. We have to always remember that when we try to overcome temptation in our own strength (the flesh), we fail. But when we diligently keep watch over our heart and stay close to Jesus through prayer, there is a grace available to us to stand strong against temptation. I don’t know about you, but that encourages me! Through Jesus we can overcome temptation and live in victory.

We have to always remember that when we try to overcome temptation in our own strength (the flesh), we fail. But when we diligently keep watch over our heart and stay close to Jesus through prayer, there is a grace available to us to stand strong against temptation.

Application

What temptation have you been facing recently? Let’s take it to God in faith right now and choose to walk in victory.

Prayer

Jesus, thank You that in You we can have victory not just over sin, but even temptation! We recognize that we can’t do it on our own strength. But we choose to stay vigilant and to stay as close to You as we can. We know that when we do this, Your grace empowers us to walk in victory. Thank You for making it possible to live a life of abundance in You. Amen!
