Baptism

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. Baptism is one of the most exciting moments in the life of our church and can be in your life as well.  If you are thinking about getting baptized, we want to help you take your next step.

Baptisms Dates: COMING SOON

Have questions about being baptized at Journey? Listed below are a few of the common questions that we’re asked and we hope will help you!

Can my baby be baptized?
We do not baptize babies at Journey. Instead, we dedicate infants and babies to God, following the practice of Jesus’ parents in Luke 2:22. Another example of this is found in Scripture when Jesus blesses the little children in Matthew 19:13-15 and Luke 18:15-17.

We believe dedicating children to God is a very sacred and holy act. The reason we choose to dedicate instead of baptizing is because we believe baptism is a public confession of an inward change. Since a baby is not yet able to make a confession of faith, we believe it is more in line with Scripture to dedicate them to the Lord.

Can my elementary schooler or student be baptized?
While we do not place a strict age limit on children being baptized, a person should be baptized only when they have been able to make a conscious decision to follow Christ and are fully aware of their own indwelling sin. While many children may know Jesus as their Lord and Personal Savior, sometimes they are too young to comprehend what sin is. Therefore, many parents choose to wait to baptize their child until they are older in age and able to make the decision for themselves.

What should I wear to be baptized?
Be sure to bring a towel and comfortable clothes with you to be baptized in. Make sure not to wear anything white as the water may make them translucent. Also, be sure to bring a dry pair of clothes (shirt, shoes, undergarments, etc) to change into after you are baptized.

Do I need to take classes before being baptized?
Most often, we have a baptism class 45 minutes prior to the actual baptism service. In this class, we cover what baptism represents, what it means to follow Christ, and how baptisms will be facilitated. You will be registered for the class automatically when you sign-up to be baptized.

Should my friends and family come?
Absolutely! Baptism is a personal confession of faith to the public. Whether it’s your friends, family, coworkers, or whomever; it’s a great opportunity for you to celebrate this spiritual milestone with others.
